Hello all! Welcome to this week's Tuesday Tidbits! Here we are after Halloween. After this point it feels like we are in the home stretch of the holiday season. Have you started your holiday shopping yet? I have and let me tell you it feels great! I feel more accomplished when I get this started early.
This week was a very busy and accomplished week. With Halloween having come, some exciting things happened. Today I am sharing about our Halloween day, a couple movies we watched, a small social media break I took, early voting, and some good vibes I felt. Without further ado, here is this week's tidbit.
1. Early voting
I know today is our regular voting day and I am encouraging everyone to go out and vote.
I went and voted on Friday. The line was long and took about an hour. It went pretty fast for a while and then when I got close to the door they brought everyone 62 years of age and older to the front of the line. I completely understand why but it caused some confusion and a delay for a while. Regardless of the wait, it is always worth it to vote.
Voting is our voice. It is our way to say what we want and the more people going out to vote and expressing your voice, the more we will be heard. I have never seen so many people in line voting before. I know this election is historic and will be memorable. It was amazing to see so many people come out and use that voice.
I just think of the women before us that did not have the right to vote and whose voice was silenced. I think about the fight they went through to earn that right for us. I choose to vote every election for those women. They were forced to be silence and did not want to be. How could I choose to stay silent myself?
If you are reading this and have not voted yet, please go out and vote!
2. Social media break
I took a small social media break this weekend. During my breaks I usually still go on social media but do it more for enjoyment or inspiration. I did not post. Sometimes you just need a break and this weekend I needed one. I felt a bit exhausted, unmotivated, and needed a refresher and a small break was perfect.
It gave me time to step back from relying on instagram as a bit of self promotion and business minded. It also gave me the time to focus on the Halloween festivites and spending a little extra time with family.
I am back at it this week and a break was just what I needed. I have learned that if you get to the point where your body and/or mind just cannot do something and you need a break, you need to take it.
3. Getting some good vibes and reminiscence
Ok so before we moved out to this area, we first went to Beaufort for a short trip. I actually work in the Beaufort area. Although I work for a different company now, the point to move out here was for a job in Beaufort, SC.
Before moving down here, we took a short trip so I could interview and see the area to see if it is what we liked.
We ended up loving it and moved. Although we are settled in Savannah now, I still have my heart in the Beaufort area. I still work there so I can still enjoy it regularly but it is not always I get to go and walk around the downtown area.
I was able to take a short little break along the waterfront and it brought back so many good vibes of when we first came down here and when we first came down. There was such a feeling of excitement for the new journey and some peace.
I remember the first time we walked along the waterfront and loved the feeling. We sat and ate at a restaurant and just enjoyed the view. It was so calming. Sitting there on those swings last week just brought it all back. I'm glad we are here.
It can be a struggle to be away from friends and family but in the end, I still think we made the right choice.
4. Movies we watched
This past weekend we kept in the Halloween spirit with a couple movies. We watched Hocus Pocus and Birdbox.
I'm sure most of you have watched Hocus Pocus. It is for sure my favorite Halloween movie. I love everything about it. Can you believe my husband never saw it? He is actually more into the gory movies than the cute flicks. I'm not so much into gore. My husband said he really enjoyed the movie. He likes the 90s nostalgia so he liked this movie.
As far as Birdbox, it was NOT my favorite. We decided to watch it because of all the talk that surrounded it when it first came out.
This movie gave me major anxiety. Not sure why but it wasn't a "oh I'm scared" kind of anxiety but just a general feeling of high anxiety and discomfort. A very bad anxiety. I was tired and actually did not even finish it. Plus my husband fell asleep and I don't like watching those kind of movies by myself.
My husband ended up finishing it on his own. In his words it was "stupid".
Ok, I wouldn't say the movie was bad. I think it just didn't explain itself well. There were alot of "why" and "how" questions that felt left untouched.
5. Halloween 2020
So to end it on a positive note, did you have a good Halloween? I know we did!
Aubrey wanted to be Minnie Mouse. She was Minnie Mouse last year and wore the exact same costume this year. Hey, at least we didn't have to buy one! It was totally her choice but she is Minnie obsessed. We started out the day going to piano class dressed as Minnie, then went to a Trunk or Treat in the neighborhood, followed by Trick or Treating.
It was Claire's first Halloween and I could tell she liked being in the costume. She kept tryng to take off the monster head but then she would try to put it back on herself. It was very cute.
The costume was actually Aubrey's old costume. We looked for Daisy Duck but I had a hard time finding one so Aubrey asked for her to be the monster.
Claire mostly stayed in the wagon. It was alot of social distancing Trick or Treating with people making candy chutes to get the candy put in the buckets and bags. Some people had bowls on their porch with hand sanitizer or tables set up and had children pick out a couple for themselves.
Overall it was exactly the kind of day Aubrey wanted. Claire is too little to really understand or enjoy everything going on but I know she liked watching her sister get excited. At the end of the day we were all exhausted and our feet hurt!
I hope you all have a great week and stay safe out there.
