Happy Tuesday all! Hopefully this past week was a great one. I will say my weeks really fluctuate. Some weeks I struggle with trying to find 5 tidbits with things being slow and some weeks I struggle trying to narrow things down. I prefer the latter. I like having interesting things going on when most days seem mundane.
So without further ado, here are the this week's 5 tidbits.
1. Aubrey started piano lessons
Aubrey has been talking for a few months now about wanting a piano and being able to play. Not only to do we not have the space right now for a piano, I wanted to make sure she actually likes it first before an investment like that. I signed her up for piano lessons.
We started at the Savannah Musicians Institute. It was such a cute little place and decorated so nicely for Halloween. The classes are 30 minutes and I went and bought the book they are using so she can practice at home.
Normally this place will start teaching kids around 5 yrs old and Aubrey is only 4. She knows her left/right, numbers, and alphabet so the teacher agreed to try to start teaching her. The class went well. Aubrey really liked it and was anxious to try to learn her first song. She isn't there yet after just one lesson.
It is nice to see her excitement with this and learning an instrument is a great thing to know. She is talking about wanting to learn more instruments. I told her let's start with one and work on that first before we learn another.
Aubrey is more into the creative arts. She loves to paint, color, draw, and build things She has been into music for a while so I think this is a great lesson for her and am excited to see the progression.
2. Sleep Meditation with Peloton app
Sleep has been something I have been struggling with. For a while it was due to just not getting enough sleep with a newborn baby. Claire, although not perfect, has gotten much better and is sleeping through the night. I have been able to get a better night sleep. What I have been struggling with lately is being able to fall asleep.
This is a bit different from the previous in that I was barely able to keep my eyes open throughout the day and needing coffee all the time in order to function. I'm drinking less coffee and feeling more energized which is great but finding frustration in also not being able to fall asleep.
I recently started using the peloton app for workouts. Not for the bike or treadmill because I don't own one but for the other workouts. I found a two week sleep meditation challenge. For the past few nights I have been following along each day. Right now they are only 5 minute meditations but will transition to 10 minutes.
I can say this has really helped. I have noticed that I actually fall asleep duirng the meditation. I have had a much easier time falling asleep each night and have overall been feeling much better. If you are a peloton app user, I suggest giving this a try. If you don't use the peloton app for workouts, I would recommend them for that too. I actually talked about it during a previous Tidbit HERE.
3. SkinnyTaste Pumpkin Pie dip
I made this dip a few days ago and it is soooooo good! It tastes like pumpkin pie and it is a lighter dessert option. I like to dip apples or graham crackers in it. My favorite crackers are these Kodiak
Cakes ones. They are higher in protein and a cleaner option than traditional graham cracker.
This is a great dip to serve at your holiday festivities or to keep at home for a lighter snack. You can find the recipe HERE.
4. We watched "The Haunting of Bly Manor" for Halloween month. Eh...
Ok so my husband would probably give this show a worse review than I would. He called it "stupid". I wouldn't go that far but it's not my favorite.
We watched "The Haunting of Hill House" a couple years ago and it was very creepy. I get scared really easy and it is the kind of show that kept me scared with every episode.
I won't say I hated Bly Manor. It was not Hill House thought. I was a bit creeped out the first few episodes mainly because you just don't really know the back story yet and you know something scary is bound to come. In general, it wasn't very scary.
My husband didn't really want to finish watching it but I made him. Mainly because he constantly starts a show and then we only watch a few episodes before he is onto something else. I wanted to finish something for once so here we are...
The story line had some romantic elements in it. The house design and costumes are inspiring but if you are looking for something scary, this is not it. By the end I felt a bit more confused than scared. There are parts of the storyline that I was just confused
Am I glad I watched it? Sure. Would I recommend it? No, not necessarily. Hill House and Bly Manor are NOT the same but there are several of the same actors.
5. I started watching Emily in Paris.
Now this show I am in to! I have been seeing this show mentioned all over instagram and watned to give it a try. It is by the same producer as Sex and the City. That might be my all time favorite show so I had to give it a try.
For me, it is hard to say something is the "modern day" Sex and the City because the show is so iconic and is still relevant today. Not much has changed except some of the technology. Emily in Paris is probably the millenial version of things today.
It is about a young marketing associate from Chicago going to Paris for her job. She is living in a city that she is unfamiliar with and a language she is unfamiliar with. She has to find friends, love, and fit into a business world where she is seen as young and naive. It is experiences the younger generation is going through all the time.
I love it because I just love Paris and yearn to go back. I love it because my family is now in a city that is still unfamiliar to us with people that we don't know. I can totally related. There is also a nod to the influencer culture that is prevelant today. So yes, I guess this show is the modern version of things. I just love how cute it is. I am over half way through and am sad that the show is about to come to an end for me.
I hope the rest of your week is just fabulous!
