In my effort to be a bit more transparent, I thought it would be good to set aside one day a week to offer a few (as in 5) tidbits of information. These could be pretty much anything. Maybe it is a recipe or restaurant we tried and liked. Maybe it is a new product I want you to know about. Maybe it is just a life or family update. Maybe it is just a thought or feeling I had this week. Maybe a movie or show I want to share. It will be mostly unrelated to fashion since I set aside most of the other time for that and want to show the rest of who I am and what I do. So without further ado, here is my first Tuesday Tidbit.
1. In the mood for all things fall
That fall feeling has really hit me hard this year. I think it was a bit different last year since it was our first fall in Savannah and did not know what to expect and also because I was pregnant and busting at the seams. This year I am just so ready and craving. Every crisp, cool day has had me feeling a sense of renewal and joy. So much joy has and does happen in the fall. My oldest Aubrey was born in September (ok so not technically fall), my youngest Claire was born in November, I met my husband in October, we got married in October, and I absolutely love Halloween. It always brought so much enjoyment as a youth.
It got down to the 60s this weekend with highs in the mid 70s. It felt so amazing and I started really taking out my fall sweaters. It felt so good to have that crisp air and a light sweater without feeling so hot and humid and sticky. I have been cozying up with some hot coffees in my favorite fall flavors. I have the Pumpkin Pie Spice flavor by International Delights that I drink every morning. So yum! I actually found a large one at Sam's Club and stocked up on a couple. It was a great price!
I also have been enjoying trying some of the local coffee shops' items. This weekend I went to the Coffee + Deli (yes that is the name) out here in Savannah and right next door is a favorite candy shop. I enjoyed a caramel apple with pecans that was too big to finish. It has been a weekend tradition lately as it is becoming too cold for the weekly ice cream trips.
2. We started watching The Boys
We actually started this last week and got over halway done with the first season. This show is on Amazon. So I will preface this by saying I do NOT like gore. Like I really dislike it. I don't mind a scary movie but I hate those gory horror flicks.
This show is GORY.
But, I still love it. No the gore is not NEEDED but I can tell that it just exemplify things a bit. If you don't know the show, essentially it is about superheroes. However, it is more of the "behind the scenes" look of the superheroes in the form of being a business and them being not so perfect in their personal lives. That is a very quick synopsis without giving anything away.
I am loving the show and excited to see what keeps happening next. I can do without the gore but it hasn't stopped me from watching it unlike most gory things. The storyline has kept me watching more. The second season is out as well and plan on watching it as well.
3. Aubrey got a haircut
Aubrey's hair was very long. I mean down to her butt long. My hair was actually that long when I was a kid and my mom never wanted to cut it. I'm not sure if I ever had a haircut or trim until about the age of 12 when I wanted it cut. It was still long past my shoulders but I think my mom cried....
Anyways, Bree's hair is beautiful but it is thick and can be very unmanageable when it is too long. We use conditioner and a detangling spray but it can be so hard to get the knots out. Last time she got a haircut we got about an inch or 2 cut off. This time we went 4 inches. Part of my heart feels maybe it was too short. The logical part says it is just hair and it will grow but it is much more maneagble now. She's a toddler who always manages to get food in her hair. She needed a cut. It does look cute.
4. We haven't had much sleep
I think there is a combination of things wrong with poor Claire. Her nose is so congested and it has been hard for her to breathe, especially at night. I also think some teeth are coming in. She is almost 11 months old and she only has her 2 bottom front teeth. With all these things she has been waking up alot at night and having a hard time falling asleep. I bought some homeopathic cough medicine. It seems to have worked last night.
She also has been walking more. She takes probably about 10 steps now. Some of the excitement of learning new things causes some sleep regression. Things were a little better last night. Being a parent is no joke...
5. We spent our weekend being "tourists" in our city
Lately I have been feeling in a funk. The fall air and vibe has been helping to relieve me but I feel that everyday is so routine and ordinary. I work from home most days and so I often get bored with my surroundings and day to day. On saturday we decided to go downtown and just explore.
We have been living here about a year and a half now but we are still fairly new and still something new to see, still some new place to try to drink or eat at or new shop to visit. That is what we did, and of course there were some picture perfect moments to document.
It felt great for us all to get some fresh air and change of surroundings. My husband got a beer. I got a coffee from my favorite little spot, the Paris Market and Aubrey and I both got some macaroons from the Paris Market. Claire got a new pair of pants. Poor thing had a poop explosion and we didn't bring an extra pair of clothes. Mom fail.
This is definitely something I would like to make a regular of doing. I would love to go and explore other areas, try different restaurants and really become less of "tourists" and more of "experts"
